Set aside two days (or one extremely long one) for this delightful family-friendly contemporary paranormal fantasy in which librarians 34-year-old Paige Turner and 236-year-old teacup dragon Dewey Decimael are again charged with saving the world from destruction. There is at least one chortle. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. I must first give some caveats. 1. I have not read the first book in this series about Paige Turner (pun clearly intended), a librarian who deals with supernatural threats, and her non-human sidekicks. 2. I am not a member of the target audience, which I assume is middle-grade or very young adult readers. 3. I was expecting more along the lines of a Patrick Rothfuss or Robert Jordan style fantasy. (Don't know why. Just was.) So it's not really my type of story, and I think it would be unfair to judge it as such.However... I can say the book is written with a fun and snappy prose style with plenty of humour. I believe it will appeal to members of the target audience who are looking for a purely fun read with thrills and adventure while being light on the emotional scale. While I might wonder why the 30-year-old heroine talks and thinks like a young teen, or why she takes threats to her life a little too lightly to seem plausible to me, I don't think younger readers will see that as a problem and will just enjoy the ride. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This book wasn't as great as the first in this series but it was still decent. It had a relatively slow start that didn't keep my attention well. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Shadow Charms is the second book in the Shelving Magic series. Paige Turner is an archive librarian at Shadow Harbour Public Library. Her job is to retrieve magical objects and books. Her partner is a teacup dragon named Dewey Decimal. In their last adventure, Paige was injured by a vampire, and the injury is not healing. Dewey is trying desperately to find a cure. They also have to avoid being found by the vampire who is still searching for Paige. At the same time, Paige and Dewey are given a new assignment to retrieve a dangerous wand from a group of evil pixies. The librarians have to race around the world retrieving magical artefacts and dealing with supernatural creatures. Paige’s origins, and the fate of her mother, continue to be mysteries that Paige and Dewey need to solve. This is the second book in the series, and although I didn’t read the first, I found I didn’t have too much trouble figuring out what was going on. The book was a series of adventures full of fantasy and adventure tropes and slap-stick comedy. The beginning was a bit slow with some repetition of dialogue, but once the adventures started it moved fairly quickly. I found the book very silly, and some of the dialogue annoying. It was overall a fast, light read, appealing to fans of humorous fantasy. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse

Don't read this book if you haven't read the first one. It goed back to a lot of stuff in the first book, it is the second part of a book to be honest.
You know, I liked Paige and I liked Dewey, but was entirely worn out at the end of the book. They go into an adventure, have to go in a second one to solve the first one, but then have to go in a third one to solve the second one... You get the drift. Entirely to much going on, no red line in this book.
It was disappointing. No third part for me. Two stars because I read to the end.
