I just don't really 'get' Walker. Maybe it's that I'm missing the background to her stories, maybe it's her style, maybe it's the subject matter. Maybe it's just me wanting to fall in love with each book that I read. I know that her writing is good, and deserves praise. But the only story I really very much liked in this collection was 'Everyday Use', a tale about heritage and how we interpret it. I'm sorry to say that I skipped a couple of stories at the end. Maybe I'll come back to Walker later on and hopefully see her work differently.
