I love how this book can teach students about respect for one another, nature, working together, and treating others the way you want to be treated. I would absolutely read this to my class because I believe that it holds a powerful message especially to elementary school students. ( )

This book is very similar to "Anansi's party time', in the sense of tricking each other. At different points of the story different characters control the power. It is sad to say, but the reasons to why many of the animals didn't help the man were valid. We finally see the hunter change his ways and care about nature. It is something that every person should have some sense of. ( )

Donso, an African hunter, is tricked by some crocodiles who needed help, and then none the animals or trees want to help him because of his disregard for them. Afterwards, Donso learns to live in respect and peace with nature. ( )

The theme of this wonderful tale is that man must live in harmony with nature and its many animals. It follows the story of a hunter, a crocodile, a cow, a horse, a chicken, and baobab tree, and a rabbit, and how each comes to appreciate the others’ value.

The bold and vibrant illustrations of this book are all found on the even pages, that is, on the right of the text page. I find this to be sturdy and balanced. Each illustration looks to be made from a rich and colorful oil paint, and each is framed by an intricately patterned border in black and white. The paintings tend to use the same colors, namely forest green, tangerine orange, canary yellow, blue, black and white.

I think the illustrations enhance the tale very much. It is a fine story with a noble lesson. However, it is an even better story with the accompaniment of the paintings, which were also done by the author. ( )

This book tells the tale of Bamba the crocodile, his family, and Donso the Hunterman. The story is set near Mecca. Donso helps the crocodile family get back to the river, once there the crocodiles double cross him and Donso tricks them into tieing them up with the help of the rabbit. He takes them back to his village to eat. When they get there the crocodiles bargain for their lives with tears to heal the huntermans wife.
