This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first World Series, in which the upstart Boston squad of the fledgling American League triumphed over the Pittsburgh Pirates of the time-honored National League. A surprisingly dull book that reads as if dashed off for a book report by a grade school pupil and made to meet a page quota by stuffing lots of pictures and graphics. It's not that bad actually, it's just not that good, especially with the subject matter being so interesting. At any rate it's always fun to read about old time baseball. ( )
