A great "pictures only" book showing really neat photographs of cubes, cones, cylinders, and squares. The back contains a page with all of the authors others books and the back leaf describes her photography journey and credentials. A co-worker and I were discussing that it would have been nice if the author would have included what the photographs were and where they were taken because many are very interesting! A cool book! ( )

Just for 10 seconds look around the room. What shapes do you see? The door, tv, windows are rectagles. Do you see a ball? That's a SPHERE! A phone? Yup, that's a rectangular prism.

The book is a little game were iSpy meets geometry. It includes numerous of photos (with no words) which you must guess what shape is in the picture. However, the book only focuses on 4 different shapes which are in the title.
Page 1 includes wooden alphabet/number block... CUBES! Page 2 includes a young girl eating two ice cream cones... TAHTS A CONE!
Bubbles?... A SPHERE!
Drums?... CYLINDER!
Baseball?... SPHERE!
Presents?... A CUBE

This book gets 4 out of five stars. I find it too easy and can be flipped through pretty fast. It should have included more than one shape in each photograph such as the girl eating two ice cream cones (cones) with maybe her sitting on a box (cube)etc.
HOWEVER,
I love the fact it can make children realize there are shapes all around them besides only on paper. This could be a great project for kids to take pictures of shapes in and around there home. ( )
