It is a clear and concise introduction to many of the questions that beginners will face in choosing a vehicle, driving, and modifications. It does an excellent job of presenting both advantages and disadvantages of many of the choices that need to be made by an off-road driver. Each of the 12 chapters is pretty-much self-contained so a reader can choose any topic to read at any time. However, this does result in some repetition if one is reading the book from beginning to end. There's at least a couple of pages on all the main things that need to be considered, though none receive a lot of depth. As such, experienced off-roaders probably won't gain a lot from the volume, and newcomers to the activity may not find all the information they really need here. This volume is perhaps best thought of as a starting point for newbies, a primer to acquaint them on what additional information and skills will be needed. It does that really well, though I'd be concerned that the lack of detail might inspire overconfidence in a potential driver who might be encouraged to venture off without the needed abilities.
