This was one of my favourite books when I was about 11 or 12. It's the fictionalized biography of a young Arab boy (Hi Jolly is an Americanization of his name & title, Hadji Ali) who makes an unintentional pilgrimage to Mecca and later ends up in the United States where the US Army (I think) was investigating the possibility of using camels in the deserts of the Southwest. I went through a phase where I read all the Jim Kjelgaard books on the library shelves, but after awhile most of them seemed similar. Not this one! ( )
