This is my first Charles Dickens book & I kind of thought I might enjoy this book, but I didn't think I would love enough to not be able to put it down for long. I even tried to watch a few shows on Netflix and Hulu before shutting it down after just one show, turning on music and picking up the book again.
What made me want to buy this book in the first place was that I had seen the Oliver Twist movie on television one day (on one of the local Classic Shows/Movies channels). I turned the movie off almost immediately and said that I would try to read the book first before sitting through the movie (thankfully, I found the book at my local used book store not long after that).
Can you believe I have no recollection of ever seeing the movie all the way through? I've seen bits and pieces but never knew anything beyond Please Sir, can I have some more?. I'm not sure when I will get to the movie because the book was hard to read because of all Oliver went through, so I think I will wait until I'm over the book (the sad parts) before I attempt to watch the movie.
I am so glad that I picked up this book. It was just something that was amazing! Had I known I would love it this much, I would have read it the same day I bought it earlier this year!
The thing is though, I think I may have gotten an abridged version. Which is fine, I got enough of the story to understand what went on. I doubt I could take reading a longer version!
I added this to my new Books I need to try to get through within the next few months basket (among other classics) because I haven't read any classics in a long while. I don't think I've read any at all this year.
Not sure if or when I will be going on to any more Dickens books, but this really has me considering it sometime in the future!
I really do wish I had the cover for the book on GR because it is such a pretty cover (to me anyway). And the quick search I did on Bing, I couldn't find it there either. But, one day, if I find a cover that I truly love more than this one, I may replace my copy! :-) ( )
