Synopsis: 'At Castillo's safe house in Argentina, a young Army lieutenant assigned to the United States embassy in Paraguay reports that a key DEA agent has been kidnapped by drug dealers. The lieutenant has heard talk of Castillo's covert operations and wants help rescuing his friend. As much as the news angers Castillo, he says there's no way he could get permission - not with the State Department's fear of offending the South American governments. But Castillo is wrong; not only does he learn that the DEA agent has ties to the politically powerful mayor of Chicago, he learns of it from the President himself - who then orders Castillo to do anything it takes to bring back the agent. With one warning: Don't get caught...'
Review: While the first two books had a large chunk of mystery, the last two, including this one, do not. This means that the book is more military than intellectual puzzle. I do wonder what is going to happen with Charlie's new found son. ( )

Mr. Griffin continues to be one of my favorite authors. The story, as usual, is filled with jargon but of what type I can't say. The author clearly seems to lack confidence in any organization but he is fascinated with individuals, paladins perhaps, who seem gifted with enormous good luck, happy brakes, and an intuition for doing the right thing. Straightforward....now I know what someone means by "punchy prose". This book just basically says "Hey! Read me! Here's the beginning, here's the detail in the middle, and here's the end! Have a nice day." Not as good as the previous in this series, but Castillo is an interesting enough character to keep me reading the Presidential Agent novels. ( )

Next in the series, found myself enjoying the character development. The book also seemed to do a good job at Washington politics enmeshed in the times. There is engagement with "the president" always an unnamed character. That's good, I think, because it doesn't engage the political persuasions of the reader: "he would never do that!" And keeps the reader in the adventure. I'll take a break, if I can, before going on to book number four. ( )

Wonderful book, can't wait to read the next "Gringo" book. I hope Griffin never stops writing about guys doing what needs to be done when it needs done.
This book has action, adventure, intrigue, suspense, and even some romance thrown in. I would recommend this book to any action/adventure reader. ( )
