even though I haven't read the rest of the series, this is a fun paranormal romp

I recommend reading the previous books in this series before diving into Heart of Lies. While this book is engaging and well-written, it can be disconcerting in the assumption that the reader has full knowledge and recollection of all events and characters previously occurring in the series. I enjoyed the story and felt the characters were well-formed. However, I wish that I had realized before reading it that there were several previous books that would have provided the depth of background to improve the experience. ( )

Heart of Lies by Lisa Edmonds is the 7th book in the Alice Worth series. I have read the previous books in the series and it's strongly recommended you read the first 6 book otherwise you'd get quite lost. This book followed on from where the last ended, where poor Alice and her tribe experienced some trauma which fractured their gang. This book revolves around the gang working through some of their issues. As each book progresses, I get more involved with these characters and particularly like the way the author crafts complex characters. Alice's personal growth has impressed me and (I won't put spoilers) but the big bad that happens in this book causes Alice to reevaluate a few things and I enjoyed reading how thoughts during that time. Can't wait to read book 8. ( )

Heart of Lies by Lisa Edmonds. Alice Worth series, #7. Paranormal romance. Now moved in with alpha werewolf lover, Sean Maclin, Alice is finding her place in the pack, getting used to having her biological father back in her life, and worrying about her ghost pal, Malcolm, who is distant grieving his own lover’s loss. Adding to the complications, there’s a private investigator digging for dirt on Alice and her evil grandfather is trying to get her back into his organization and she’s being forced to come to terms with her own “white knight” complex, which is causing her friends and family a lot of aggravation and pain. So, she takes a case (who wouldn’t?) to find a missing artist, and goes up against the Dark Fae. Maybe not terribly original, but action packed, good characters and a decent plot. Recommended. Reviewed from an eBook received from the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program in return for an honest review.

The seventh volume in the Alice Worth series and I must say. Not disappointing. I was really looking forward to this volume because I had binged on the first six volumes.

Alice is coping with several things in this book. Her father, a lone wolf and her estrangement from her ghost Malcolm. She is taking on a case concerning a young artist who disappears and that one quickly spirals out of control.
Dark forces gather and to make it worse, her father Moses Murphy gives her an ultimatum. Dark force on the one hand, her father on the other hand, both are very dangerous.

I think it was a great addition to the series, but long, a bit too long I think with 471 pages, and that also in comparison to the next volume (Heart of the Pack) which was 231 pages.

Disclaimer: I got this book in the Librarything Early Reviewers. ( )
