Piggie, being his friend, tries multiple things to cheer him up, but will elephant ever cheer up? Piggie does not give up trying to make him happy. Friendship and being there for your friends even when they are sad is a great lesson learned from this story. abbye183 | Jan 28, 2019 | I have read many of the Elephant and Piggie books and they are all very entertaining, hilarious, and educational. Elephant and PIggie: My Friend is Sad is about how PIggie tries to cheer up sad Gerald. Like the other Elephant and Piggie books, this one also has minimal words, but so much is told through the minimal dialogue and action packed illustrations.
