Two college besties made a marriage pact on their graduation day that if they both were thirty and weren’t married they would marry each other!

Hannah was turning thirty and she had a boyfriend that wasn’t going anywhere and she was struggling with ways to break up with him. Someone knocks on her door and they were on one knee with a gigantic diamond asking her to marry him. It wasn’t her boyfriend, it was her college friend Will, whom she hadn’t spoken with in at least 5 years kneeling in front of her!

Surprised is an understatement, but when they both figured they could benefit from this marriage pact, they went to city hall and officially got married five days later!

What could go wrong? They only agreed to remain married for a year, but both families wasn’t buying this whole charade.

Such a cute friends to lovers romcom that breaks all the dating rules! Highly recommend this adorable fun read! ( )

I found the book When We're Thirty a little too predictable and kind of silly. It was an OK, but mostly unmemorable read. ( )

*A Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this. This is my honest and unbiased review*

I went into this book expecting a slew of fake dating tropes and hi-jinx, but it became very apparent early on that this was not going to be the case. Admittedly, I was a bit disappointed by this as fake dating is my favorite romance trope but for Will and Hannah it was known pretty much from the start that they wanted each other.

This doesn't mean that they didn't have their fair share of hurdles like; scheming fathers, disapproving mothers, ex-fiances, and a brother betrayal. So, they already had their fair share of things going on. The one thing I can definitely say I did not like was the conflict, which could have been avoided had they just communicated with each other from the beginning. To me it seemed a bit ridiculous that it went on for so long.

Overall, a pretty solid romance ( )

I really enjoyed When We're Thirty. I found the characters to be realistic and likeable, and the challenges that they faced were relatable. It was clear to me from the start the the marriage pact would, of course, work out, and that Hannah and Will were meant to be together, but sometimes there's nothing wrong with a bit of predictability.

When We’re Thirty by Casey Dembrowski has an interesting premise. Will Thorne and Hannah Abbott made a pact in college that if they are not already married to other people when they are 30, they will marry each other.

And that’s what happens. Will, Hannah and every other person they are involved with, except maybe Hannah’s boss Riley, seem to have sad, discouraging and empty lives. There are plenty of plot detours and lots of drama but I really couldn’t work up empathy for any of the characters. Lots of bad choices and regret but not much fun to read. ( )
