Fiction. Mystery. HTML:

This first book of the Fiona series was on The New York Times list of top ten crime novels of the year. It introduces Fiona FitzGerald, a senator's daughter turned Washington, D.C., homicide detective, as she pursues a serial killer in the nation's capitol. In her search to solve the crimes, she uncovers the disturbing sexual and homicidal obsessions of a socially prominent but failed Washington politician. Try the other Fiona mysteries: American Sextet, Senator Love, Immaculate Deception, and The Ties That Bind.

This is a reissue of an older book by Warren Adler. Unlike "Trans-Siberian Express", another of Mr. Adler's reissues that I greatly enjoyed, I found "American Quartet" to have aged badly. Values and mores have changed since the book was first published and I do not believe that the contemporary cultural references will be understood by readers who are under 60.

I received a review copy of American Quartet by Warren Adler (Stonehouse Productions) through Netgalley.com. ( )

This is yet another of the series featuring detective Fiona Fitzgerald, of whom I was unaware. Now that I have found her courtesy of Netgalley, I'll be seeking additional work of Mr. Adler. Good development of plot and characters along with believable action make this a good police procedural read. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to experience the new character and author. This is the second book of the series I have read and am pleased to report that the quality of writing and development has held up to my initial expectations. thank you. ( )
