"Before he was Dr. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci was a curious boy in Brooklyn, delivering prescriptions from his father's pharmacy on his blue Schwinn bicycle. His father and immigrant grandfather taught Anthony to ask questions, consider all the data, and never give up-and Anthony's ability to stay curious and to communicate with people would serve him his entire life. This engaging narrative, which draws from interviews the author did with Dr. Fauci himself, follows Anthony from his Brooklyn beginnings through medical school and his challenging role working with seven US presidents to tackle some of the biggest public health challenges of the past fifty years, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Extensive backmatter rounds out Dr. Fauci's story with a timeline, recommended reading, a full spread of facts about vaccines and how they work, and Dr. Fauci's own tips for future scientists"--… (mere)

This is an excellent picture book biopgrahy for children. It’s a great introductory science book too.

This account covers most of Dr. Fauci’s life all the way up to the covid pandemic. It is well written and engagingly told. Dr. Fauci was interviewed for it and it’s well researched in every way.

I liked the illustrations a lot too, although it took me a while to warm up to the way people’s faces were painted.

The bulk of the book is an illustrated biography of Dr. Fauci. There are some great informative pages at the end too. How Do Vaccines Work. Are Vaccines Safe? Dr. Fauci’s Five Tips for Future Scientists. A Timeline. A Recommended Reading List. A List of Sources. An Author’s Note and Acknowledgements with photos of Dr. Facui and family members when he was younger.

Highly recommended to budding scientists and kids interested in or wanting to learn a bit about science. Also recommended for MANY adults who need a bit of education about what science is and how it works! That said, this is not a political book and I think it can be enjoyed by everyone.

Anthony Fauci's childhood was characterized by curiosity: asking questions, seeking answers. His family encouraged him: "Don't get discouraged. Don't run away because you don't understand the problem. Think about it carefully and try to work it out." In this way, "Anthony learned to start with wondering, then gather evidence and keep an open mind."

Fauci became a doctor who studied infectious diseases; one double page spread shows him reaching for (or placing) a binder on a shelf of other binders: Ebola, SARS, West Nile, and AIDS, all labeled NIH and dated. And of course, "one of Dr. Fauci's biggest challenges came when a new disease appeared at the end of 2019 - COVID-19." Fauci remembered his father's advice and worked through the problem.

America's doctor gets the treatment in children's literature. Throughout, we see how Dr. Fauci grew up and his approach to life and problem solving: keep an open mind, think carefully, listen to people, don't get discouraged. Kids not only will relate to this book in this particular time but Dr. Fauci's approach to life is one they can emulate and identify with. Backmatter includes how vaccines work and their safety, "Dr. Fauci's Five Tips for Future Scientists," a timeline, recommended reading and even Fauci family photos. Considering how busy the man has been, he was quite generous with his time sharing his story for little ones! Thank you, Dr. Fauci! ( )
