"It can be hard to be different-whether because of how you look, where you live, or what you can or can't do. But wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same? Being different is great! Being different is what makes you YOU. This inclusive and empowering picture book from Sofia Sanchez-a young model and actress with Down syndrome-reminds readers how important it is to embrace your differences, be confident, and be proud of who you are. Imagine all of the wonderful things you can do if you don't let anyone stop you! You are enough just how you are. Sofia is unique, but her message is universal: We all belong. So each spread features beautiful, full color illustrations of a full cast of kid characters with all kinds of backgrounds, experiences, and abilities. This book also includes back matter with a brief bio of Sofia and her journey so far, as well as additional information about Down syndrome and how we can all be more accepting, more inclusive, and more kind"--… (mere)

1. Inspired by Sofia Sanchez, a girl with Down syndrome who is inspiring others to love themselves just as they are
2. Contains a Q&A for kids from the National Down Syndrome Society at the end of the book
3. Cultural representation through the characters in the illustrations - there are individuals of all races and ethnicities
4. Disability representation through the characters in the illustrations - including blind, amputees, wheelchair bound, and individuals who are deaf (and more)
5. This story is very inspiring and motivational-based, there is not much action or plot through the text, but this could make for great discussions during read alouds (e.g. discussions on what is seen in the illustrations or discussions on connections to the text)
6. TeachingBooks resources: https://school.teachingbooks.net/tb.cgi?tid=81065
7. Companion lesson and activity: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/You-are-Enough-Book-Companion-lesson...
8. Story, dance, and video from Sofia: https://outschool.com/classes/you-are-enough-story-dance-inclusion-tiyUhgDF
9. Interview with Sofia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6gQ1_HEmRM
10. Activity could include having a discussion on what makes you, you! ( )

This book was fine. There are many like it available. It reminds kids that they are perfect the way they are, and that everyone is different. It does in the back have some information about Down Syndrome, but it is not really illustrated on the pages, or in the story. ( )

A wonderful story told from the inspiration of a young girl named Sofia Sanchez. It's about accepting who are, loving yourself, and being kind to others.

A book about physical differences and disabilities and how its okay to be different

A young girl, inspired by a real-life child with Down syndrome, narrates this book about being yourself no matter what.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful, with a bright palette, and showcase children with a variety of abilities and disabilities from different racial backgrounds.

The general message about letting your unique self shine and not caring if other people stare is good, but the book is basically 100 percent cheery. I think that's okay for young children on the whole, but I do know some disability advocates and disabled people get frustrated by media that feels overly saccharine in its inspiration and calls for cheerfulness in situations that don't always warrant in it.

Backmatter includes more information about the story's inspiration and about Down syndrome generally. ( )
