Plot: Whitmore Tagore, called Win by her friends, is an international movie star - and she knows that making it big in Hollywood requires three times the reputation management as a woman of color than everybody else. Fortunately, she has a standing arrangement with Leo Malinowski, heir to a hotel chain, and whenever her reputation is being threatened, they rekindle their on-again-off-again dramatic relationship for the paparazzi. Just now, Win's ex is running his mouth and could cost Win her next big role. So, Leo flies to the Cote d'Azur for a romantic holiday with her. But this time, their sizzling relationship catches up to them, and they both have to decide whether they should try things for real - or leave each other forever. The View Was Exhausting was fanfuckingtastic. I found myself completely engrossed in the characters and their story, and as a bonus, it tackles serious issues like racism and misogyny in a very insightful way. But most importantly: the romance stole my heart. Read more on my blog: https://kalafudra.com/2023/03/24/the-view-was-exhausting-mikaella-clements-onjul... There was one moment here where I kept the audiobook going when I got home to find out what happened...but there were too many other moments where I just didn't care enough. I wanted a few other plot points here. It's a really fascinating look at character and I especially loved Win's mum, but it dragged a bit. I'm not much of a romance reader. This book was recommended to me by a friend from England, and I'm grateful that I listened. I saw this book in my head as if I were watching a movie. I would like to see this film on Netflix at some point in the future with @priyankachopra in the starring role. The View Was Exhausting by @mikandonj ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
"The world can see that international A-list actress Whitman ("Win") Tagore and jet-setting playboy Leo Milanowski are made for each other. Their kisses start Twitter trends and their fights break the internet. From red carpet appearances to Met Gala mishaps, their on-again, off-again romance has titillated the public and the press for almost a decade. But it's all a lie. As a woman of color, Win knows the Hollywood deck is stacked against her, so she's perfected the art of controlling her public persona. Whenever she nears scandal, she calls in Leo, with his endearingly reckless attitude, for a staged date. Each public display of affection shifts the headlines back in Win's favor, and Leo uses the good press to draw attention away from his dysfunctional family. But pretending to be in a passionate romance can only lead to one thing . . . trouble. So instead they settle for friendship, with a side of sky-rocketing chemistry. Except this time, on the French Riviera, something is off. A shocking secret in Leo's past sets Win's personal and professional lives on a catastrophic collision course. Behind the scenes of their yacht-trips and PDA, the world's favorite couple is at each other's throats. Now they must finally confront the many truths and lies of their relationship, and Win is forced to consider what is more important: a rising career, or a risky shot at real love?"-- No library descriptions found. |

Mostly enjoyed this behind the scenes story of a Hollywood star using her publicist to curate her public persona and navigate the “crisis” created by her personal life.
I guess this is technically a romance novel too. ( )
