This book is "Watch Me" by Doyin Richards, illustrated by Joe Cepeda, and published in 2021. This book is about a young boy from West Africa and immigrated to the United States to follow his dreams. He did good in school, made friends, and embraced his new home while also missing his home in Africa. He got made fun of, was told he couldn't do it, and succeeded despite what people said. He said "watch me" when people told him he couldn't do it. I think this is a good book to teach kids about immigration, but also has a good lesson that you can do anything you set your mind to despite what other people might say. This book is good for a primary age group. It describes a boy from Sierra Leone facing adversity to come to American and become a doctor. As inspirational as it sounds, it's a fairly simple book without a ton of depth to it. I might have it in my classroom, but it certainly wouldn't be a priority. It could be used to teach about racism and encourage students to push back against difficulty. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
