With a spaceship named The Prayer, I guess you’re asking Fate for trouble. It certainly seems to have worked this way for the hapless crew that was stranded in space four years ago, when hostile aliens teleported them into the void. So far, the captain has maintained law and order, everyone is still pretending they will find their way back to Earth at some point, and each crew member has developed particular hobbies to pass the time. The captain is strict, self-disciplined, and not inclined to wallow. But after more than four years without a hint of where they are, never mind how to get back home, he is beginning to wonder if what they are doing is right. Four of the crew members are especially susceptible to his magnetism, and I loved watching them fall for the captain’s hidden charms one by one. Thomas, Rick, and Echo (within certain limits), and Zachery each have their own contribution to make. By the end of this first volume, nothing much was resolved and my curiosity as to what’s next is definitely piqued. If you like stories about men lost in space with nothing much to do and only their own company, if you’re a fan of somewhat humorous science fiction that focuses more on human relationships than science or technology, and if you’re in the mood for an entertaining romp in space with four very willing men as partners, then you will probably like this novella. The Prayer and her crew have been lost in space for four years. Thomas is lonely and homesick; Zachery is angry and mutinous; Rick is just terrified. And all of them are really in need of some hands-on time with their captain. The only thing holding them together is their captain, an aloof, sharp-tongued man whose methods of keeping up morale are unconventional, but extremely effective. But now the captain has a choice to make: do they continue their fruitless search for a way home or try to start a new life in this strange galaxy? The Captain's Men contains adult content suitable for mature readers only. Because of the actions of an alien race, the Captain and crew of ‘The Prayer’ were tossed far out into space, far away from our solar system and they have no idea where they are. Adrift for four years, every day is the same and there is no hope of ever going back home even though they all pretend they might go back one day, all except one man on board.
The Captain is a mysterious man. No one really knows much about him. He’s stern and demands perfection from everyone. One day everything changes when he walks onto the bridge without his shoes and socks. It turns out Tom has a foot fetish or more like he hasn’t had sex in so long that naked feet attract him. Tom’s the first to have sex with the Captain. After that, the Captain tries to convince himself that he won’t seduce any of the others, but that doesn’t go so well.
Eventually all the male crew are having sex with the Captain. Each man has different sexual tastes and each chapter in this short story is about how the crewmembers end up with the captain. Yes, there is a lot of sex, but at the same time, there’s also introspection by the men on what they think of the captain and the other members lost in space with them.
This is a humorous book. I found myself laughing at many places in the story. This book also has lots of sex, but after the initial encounter with each crewmember, the sex in future scenes is a fade to black or as a memory. The sex was still a little much for me since I would’ve liked more information about the aliens that were able to fling their ship out into a different part of the Universe, characterization, and other sci-fi ideas. This of course is personal preference.
The Captain’s Men is well written and I don’t remember finding many, if any, grammatical errors. I intend to read the rest of the series. If the author hasn’t already, I’d suggest putting all the books in this series into one book. It doesn’t take long to read the first book and I found it entertaining. I give this story 4 Stars.
