Living in Colombia, surrounded by rich jungles and mountaintops, young Gabriel García Márquez is growing into the magic and wonder-loving storyteller he would later become. His family, his pet parrot, the neighboring banana farmers, and the dictionary are some of his favorite things to ponder. A light-hearted biography of García Márquez with bright and colorful illustrations to match the text. My favorite part was the set of pages illustrating some of the characters García Márquez would later write about, with the words "Can you imagine...?" on each page. ( )

This book is about life of an amazing storyteller and writer from Colombia. From an early age his imagination was running high and free. ( )

I have never heard of this author before so this picture book was truly an interesting experience. It offers an insight to how an imagination can be positive and lead to careers in the future. The illustrations are full color and seem to be a window into the imagination of Gabito.

My Name is Gabito is an imaginative story told by the man himself, Gabriel Garcia Marquez about his younger self. He tells how his imagination evolved from the ghost in the chair, to his magical parrot, to the wild bull in his kitchen. With the more he learned and experienced, his storytelling skills grew and shaped him into the man he is today.
This could be a very encouraging book for students struggling to learn English as their second language because it offers both a Spanish section and an English section on every page, while also providing an encouraging message that the more you know the more your story will grow. ( )

This book is about the life of Columbia native and author, Gabriel Garcia Marquez. This book, along with its' beautiful illustrations, would be a perfect mentor text for a student writing a biography. The details given about Gabito help the reader to understand how he became the famous writer that he is. This is an excellent book to show to students studying biographies or writers. ( )
