"Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney plumbs the depths of marriage, motherhood and friendship with warmth and wit. I devoured it in one gulp! Treat yourself to some Good Company." â??Maria Semple, author of Today Will Be Different

A warm, incisive new novel about the enduring bonds of marriage and friendship from Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney, author of the instant New York Times bestseller The Nest
Flora Mancini has been happily married for more than twenty years. But everything she thought she knew about herself, her marriage, and her relationship with her best friend, Margot, is upended when she stumbles upon an envelope containing her husband's wedding ringâ??the one he claimed he lost one summer when their daughter, Ruby, was five.

Flora and Julian struggled for years, scraping together just enough acting work to raise Ruby in Manhattan and keep Julian's small theater companyâ??Good Companyâ??afloat. A move to Los Angeles brought their first real career successes, a chance to breathe easier, and a reunion with Margot, now a bona fide television star. But has their new life been built on lies? What happened that summer all those years ago? And what happens now?

A good evolution of relationships and friendships that included parenthood. Having it set in the theater and acting world made it interesting. ( )

Wife finds husband's wedding ring that he said he lost in a pond when they had been married only a few years. The book goes back and forth in time, from one narrator to another.

Husband, wife, and wife's best friend are all actors of various talents. Best friend's husband is a doctor. Husband and wife have one daughter. They are all involved in a play held every summer at a friend's estate.

I really liked this book. ( )

This was the second time that I picked up this book to read it. The first time, I could not get past the first chapter, my brain just wasn't picking up what the author was putting down.

The second time I listened to the audiobook and I was able to read the whole book, woohoo! The first quarter of this book moved a little slow but once it started picking up speed it was an easy read. I like that the ending wasn't all sunshines and rainbows for all the characters. I loved Ruby's story arc and the career she found for herself. I also loved her reaction to the event in the airport even though she had the same plan, I could totally see myself doing the exact same thing as a teen. Overall, this was a good read. ( )

"...but looking at someone you married, someone you loved, and feeling unadulterated hatred---it's an unimaginable thing."
She warned Julian about the danger of secrets, how they were tiny cracks that compromised the tensile strength of a relationship. But that was the other thing about patients who had to keep their home lives hidden, cloaked in shame---secrets felt safe. The truth was much scarier. What a thing to do to a child: weaponize the truth.
