They had their summer of fun and when he got back to college Ben realized he loved Lucy, but as he was coming home to declare that love he and best friend Lucy’s brother Tony got in an argument about it on the way to pick Lucy up and there was a car accident – an accident that cost Tony his life. Obviously Ben’s fault, right? So he can’t ever face Lucy again.

Lucy’s take on that is a little different. If she hadn’t acted like the spoiled, bratty little sister and insisted Tony pick her up there would never have been an accident, would there? Obviously Lucy’s fault, right? So she doesn’t deserve a life or love or anything. Caring for her family is her priority. Anything else is frivolous and not to be allowed. And Ben? She needed him, really needed him. Except he wasn’t there – no words, no explanations, no nothing. And after what she did, she doesn’t deserve him anyway. So she needs to keep that door to her heart closed. The past is the past. But that’s not how it works in rom coms (or in life), is it?

All of Karen Grey’s books are my favorites but Forget About Me might just be the favorite favorite. Even more than the funniness and the sexiness there is the sweetness and the rightness: these two have so much history, are like two pieces of a puzzle that are meant to click together but are so confused and in so much pain . . . it’s hard to imagine how they can get past it. They are both so good: good intentions, good hearts, good gracious, can’t they see what we do? But of course we have a birds’ eye view so we can see the misunderstandings, the misplaced guilt they both feel, the insecurities, the land mines, and the heartache that could be eased with a few simple words. Talk, people, talk. But Lucy and Ben don’t have that view; they are down in the middle of it, feeling that overwhelming yearning rise up again but afraid to take a step because it might be the final misstep.

Seeing Ben and Lucy together again after all those years is a comedy of errors. Ben didn’t quite realize his dream of becoming a famous actor. He’s famous alright, but as a model. Women all over the country – the world maybe – dream about him. In her self-imposed-near-nun-like existence, however, Lucy has no clue about that. He does make it into her dreams anyway, though. When she sees women going speechless at the sight of him she’s even more sure he’s just that guy from the past; even if she didn’t have the guilt that can’t be erased, why would he even look at her. Well, they have a chance meeting over an injured dog and look at her he does. They spend more and more time together – friends, friends, be glad to be getting our friendship back, just friends – each trying to get up the courage to confess to being the cause of that accident. And along with this very serious stream of feelings and regrets and events we are treated to laugh out loud mishaps and mistakes, witty dialogue, funny people, pet antics, behind the scenes glimpses into the Boston Shakespeare theater scene and an undercurrent of sizzle that threatens to burst into flame. All written and described satisfyingly, enjoyable, perfectly as only author Grey can do. There’s a lot going on in Forget About Me: emotions, career decisions, family, friends, lovable pets all expertly balanced and wrapped up. You’ll need tissues and a fan as you read or listen. Tissues because even though your head says this will work out sometimes your heart hurts for Ben and Lucy, and a fan because when Ben and Lucy do hook up – or even think about it – it’s as scorching hot as a menopausal hot flash.

Amazing story, amazing characters, amazing series – and a fun trip down memory lane back to those weird and wild 80’s. Can’t just send off a text; you have to call or write – or whoa, talk in person. I read the book and also listened to an audiobook version. Excellent as a book, whatever is one step up from excellent to listen to. Narrators Emma Wilder and Brian Pallino are perfect – the pacing, the humor, the need, it’s all there. Get a copy of this book and everything else Karen Grey has written. You’ll be so glad you did. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own. ( )

Another fantastic story set in the 80s by Karen Grey. This is the second book in the Boston Classics series. The first book in this series, What I'm Looking For, was one of my favorite books of the year. If you have not listened to the audiobook version of that book, please do yourself a favor and take a listen.
This story is a second-chance story focusing on another member of the Shakespeare Boston theater. A tragedy ended their budding relationship many years ago and it was beautiful they way they helped to heal each other while coming back. I really loved the inclusion of the details of the plays and the parts that Ben played. I also loved that the plan to include the dog in one of the performances brought much comedy and sweetness. Another great part of the book was the music mentioned in the form of playlist titles at the beginning of each chapter.
Emma Wilder and Brian Pallino were both great choices for narration. They are both so good at the emotional stuff and had me sad right along with them and laughing right along with them.

Karen Grey (who narrates audio as Karen White) returns to her Boston Classics series with a second chance romance between a vet tech and a model/actor. This series is packed with 80's references and time-appropriate throwbacks like payphones. It's fun to read a book set in a time before cell phones because you get the "you never showed up" conflicts without some really convoluted workaround. In this case, however, the never showing up happens because of a fatal car crash. Years later, both characters are carrying around unwarranted guilt related to the death of her older brother and his best friend.

Ben is back in Boston to take care of his father and act in a couple of Shakespeare in Boston productions, but his father still lives down the street from Lucy's family so they run into each other. She's still mad at him for essentially ghosting her years ago and they have a lot of stuff to work through. It was handled well, however, with neither of them coming off as a jerk. Also! There's a dog and they both get to move forward in their careers. He's the one who moves home and she doesn't have to give anything up.

Audio note: this book is dual-narration to fit the dual-POV and is excellent. It's also one of the last books Brian Pallino narrated and Grey/White has an author's note at the end as a member of the audio narration community. It's a great tragedy to have lost him to suicide. This has been a difficult year and I encourage you to reach out to your friends or a trained professional, even if you don't think you need help "that bad."

I loved this audiobook! Listening to this book just made me happy and I couldn't get enough. I enjoyed the first book in this series and had expected to like this book just as much. I ended up liking it even more than the first. I think that Lucy and Ben's story just clicked for me and the superb narration was able to take the story to the next level. I am so glad that I decided to listen to this book.

Ben has made it big as an underwear model in California so everyone in town seems to know who he is. He came back home because his dad had some health issues but has decided to stay for a bit. He has a role in a Shakespeare play with a local theatre and helps out with his dad as much as he can. When Ben finds an injured dog on his doorstep, he takes him to the local vet where Lucy works. Lucy is still at home and spends her days working at the vet clinic and the rest of her time taking care of her family.

I loved Lucy and Ben. I do have a weakness for second chance romances so I love the fact that they have a history together. The death of Lucy's brother and Ben's best friend hit both of them very hard and they are still dealing with the effects. I thought that this pair worked really well together. The chemistry between them was fantastic and I loved the way they seemed to really come alive together. They both have some things to work through and I loved the growth that we see in both characters over the course of the story.

This book is set in the 80s which was a lot of fun for me. I felt quite a bit of nostalgia when the story talked about things that were the way of life during those years. I kind of wished that I had kept a few of the mixtapes that I spent hours making. There were a few things that were mentioned that I hadn't thought about in years.

I thought that Emma Wilder and Brian Pallino did a phenomenal job with the narration. I think that both narrators were able to capture their character's personalities perfectly. I also thought that the effects of the audio production were very well done. There was a sound of a tape either rewinding or fast-forwarding to signal the beginning or end of a flashback. It was really a perfect way to communicate those changes to the listener. I thought that both narrators added a lot to the story and that their performance added to my overall enjoyment.

I would highly recommend this book to fans of romance. I thought that this was a wonderful romance filled with great characters, a lot of chemistry, an adorable dog, and a lot of heart. I definitely plan to read more of Karen Grey's work in the future.
