Addison and Gabriel are very much in love, and are planning to marry. But, Addison is wary, because she can't remember anything prior to two years ago.
Julian, along with his daughter, Valentina, are missing Cassandra, who has been missing for two years. When he finds Addison, he tells her they are married, live near Boston, and have a daughter. Addison/Cassandra goes with him, telling a heartbroken Gabriel she remembers happiness with Julian. As part of her memory returns, and strange things begin happening that are unexplainable, Addison/Cassandra begins to wonder why is really true.
This was interesting, but a bit too far-fetched for me. ( )

W O W. You think you know what you're getting into here. Standard amnesia plot. Person with no memory makes new ones, person from their past finds them and reveals their former life, conflict ensues. Right?

Well, yes.

And then... We go back 4 years. And we get tossed into a mind so sick, so twisted, so utterly narcissitic, that it is a massive shock even as the sisters Constantine play it pretty straight in the actual narrative.

It was a solid book before the trip back in time. More character drama than true mystery/ thriller, but it worked for what it was. Several compelling storylines and conflicts through this section really drove the reader to want to know more. And then we travel back in time and begin the race to the finish. :D

Very much recommended. ( )

The Stranger in the Mirror by Liv Constantine is a recommended psychological thriller.

Addison Hope, not her real name, doesn't know who she really is. Two years ago she was found at the side of a highway in New Jersey by trucker Ed. She was obviously hurt, had no ID and no memory. Ed took her home to Philadelphia and his wife Gigi. The two get her into a doctor and then help her try to start her life again. Now she is engaged to Gabriel and about to have an exhibit of her photos at his family gallery. She loves Gabriel and should be happy, but she is still having occasional flashbacks to horrible memories, but she has no context to place them in, so she is staying quiet, afraid she did something awful in her past. At the same time Julian, a doctor in Boston, has been searching for his wife, Cassandra, for two years. Their daughter, Valentina, now 7, misses and needs her mother.

The chapters flip back and forth between several different character's points-of-view in short chapters that will propel you to keep reading. The sisters who are Liv Constantine know how to keep you reading and build suspense. There is no question that the plot will keep you reading, however you will also have to very firmly set your logic and disbelief aside to stay with the plot. I had several eye-rolling moments and scenes that had me muttering early on - and it just got worse as the plot continued. I had my suspicions the direction the plot was going to take, but hoped I was wrong. When we got to the last section I knew exactly where the plot was going and wasn't pleased to be correct. The opening was what kept me reading but the increasingly absurd plot elements left me wondering why I stuck it out when I reached the ending. I'm recommending because I did finish it, and some of the characters were well-written and interesting.

Hitchhiking and being picked up by an upstanding citizen was definitely pure luck for Cassandra.

The man who picked her up found her bleeding and dazed and without a memory of who she was or what happened to her.

Luckily this person was a Good Samaritan and he and his wife took her into their home. Gigi and Ed were wonderful people.

While Cassandra was trying to remember who she was, she met Gabriel. Gabriel came from a wealthy family. They fell in love and were going to get married much to Gabriel’s mother’s dislike.

His mother, Blythe, wanted to know who this woman her son was enamored with and was going to marry really was.

She hired a private detective and so did Cassandra’s husband, Julian.

It had been two years since his wife and Valentina’s mother had disappeared. He had to find out what happened to her and if she was still alive.

There is an undercurrent of tension as we meet the characters and follow them through their grief and suspicions. Cassandra can’t shake the tension and worry about not knowing who she is or who she was.

You will be pulled into her worry and what is going on and question what is going on.

A well-crafted psychological thriller with lots of surprises and a twist you can’t imagine happening. 4/5

This book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Addison is picked up by a truck driver. She is confused, lost and hurt. She has no idea who she is or where she has come from. She ends up in Pennsylvania with a new life. She is about to be married and have her first every photography show. Then…just like that…the husband from her past has found her.

Addison is a character which stole my heart. I was captivated by her mysterious past and her flashbacks. When her past catches up to her, that is really where her story twists. Her convoluted past will haunt any reader for days!

Talk about a story that just won’t quit! I have loved all of Liv Constatine’s books. But this is by far the best! There were places in this story where I had to actually lay the book down a minute and breathe!

Need a good, intense, unstoppable read…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review. ( )
