An Unexpected Peril 4 Stars While working on an exhibit for the Hippolyta Club honoring Alice Baker-Greene, Veronica and Stoker discover that the intrepid mountaineer was murdered. Then Princess Gisela of Alpenwald, patroness of the exhibit, vanishes, and Veronica, who bears a strong resemblance to her, is asked to pose as the princess in order to secure a tremulous peace treaty. Veronica readily agrees, and she and Stoker are soon in pursuit of a determined killer. Raybourn's detailed descriptions of the geographical, social, cultural, and political world of the fictitious Alpenwald had me convinced that the hereditary principality truly exists. The mystery surrounding the death of Alice Baker-Greene is intriguing with several twists, and the ultimate explanation is believable and satisfying. As always, it is the relationship between Veronica and Stoker that really resonates as the two come to terms with the changes that their intimacy has wrought. Their obvious love and acceptance of one another, warts and all, is delightful. In sum, another entertaining addition to the series and I look forward to seeing what Raybourn has in stall for her daring duo next. Perhaps an adventure outside of the United Kingdom? I really liked the story in this book. Veronica Speedwell is such a fabulous character and I do love her attitude to life and her background is pretty interesting (read the books to know more ;)) This series is awesome and I recommend this series if you like historical mystery series with humor in it. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
