Much disinformation is published by Pentecostals regarding Orthodox Christianity and by Orthodox Christians regarding Pentecostalism. "A Continuing Pentecost" by Spencer Estabrooks lays groundwork for authentic dialogue between Orthodox Christians and Pentecostals. He encourages openness in Pentecostals toward the spiritual life of the Orthodox Church while also encouraging openness in Orthodox Christians toward the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit. He points out some of the spiritual weaknesses of Protestant and Pentecostal theology and practice and some of the strengths of Orthodox theology and practice toward the goal of acquiring the Holy Spirit. Spiritual delusion is always a danger for both Pentecostal and Orthodox Christian alike. He summarizes and contrasts Pentecostal spirituality and Orthodox spirituality. Without discouraging legitimate desire and prayer for spiritual gifts for the benefit of the Church, Estabrooks contrasts the emphases between Pentecostalism and Orthodox Christianity, recognizing sanctification as a much more important value in Orthodoxy than the emphasis on tongues, healings, miracles and other spiritual manifestations characteristic of Pentecostal and Charismatic movements.
