I remember reading this in middle school and/or high school myself and it is about an animal farm that contains overworked and unequal animals. The story is a fable that is told to show what is looks like to have a tyrannical government/ruler and as the story goes on, the animals come together and create a more equal and stable lifestyle. This story can be assigned as a home reading and you could do a book club style assignment with the students. ( )

"Animal Farm" is a well-written story that has a much deeper meaning than simply animals overthrowing a farm. Reading this book in 10th grade was perfectly timed because I could overlap my knowledge of the Russian Revolution from History class with the historical background of the story. After writing this book in the 1940s, Orwell truly understands and displays the power of dictatorship and the effect of a Revolution. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone of any age to see a metaphorical version of the Russian Revolution. ( )

The book Animal Farm tells a story of animals that overthrow their farmers' tyranny. The animals come together to figure out how they are going to operate moving forward. The pigs take it amongst themselves to take charge. As time moves on things just get worse and worse for all the other animals. The story really shows metaphorically what happens in society when someone is given too much power. This is an incredible book that a young teen can read for fun or an adult can read to see the political aspect compared with the Russian Revolution. The story comes full circle where the animals are fed up with their leaders, it's sad to see that the animals’ hopes of freedom were not as free as expected.

This book is a must read for middle schoolers. Although it is an older book it still has great meaning throughout the years. The character's of this book like Napoleon, Snowball and Boxer rebel against the their human farming. This story is about creating a society with freedom and equality. I wont ruin the ending but it takes a turn in the ending where one of the main characters takes dictatorship. I would highly recommend this book. ( )
