A fun premise. Madison writes a parenting column when she hasn’t a clue about parenting. Jack’s a single dad and furious over Madison’s terrible advice so he pens numerous complaint letters forcing Madison to seek real world experience with children or else she’ll be fired. With their newspaper identities anonymous, Jack hires Madison to night nanny for his children and each begins to fall for the other without realizing it’s the person who they’re feuding with via newsprint.

There are some moments here that require you to suspend disbelief a bit, that she’d be hired as a parenting columnist when she’s a fashion writer, that Jack would hire a night nanny who has no experience, that the newspaper would have a policy to print every single letter to the editor, and that Jack would make a very public gesture when everything about him screams he’s a private in-person kind of guy (yes, I get that he’s doing it for Madison, still, I feel like he would have made several more face to face attempts first).

But it’s easy enough to shove mildly far-fetched stuff out of the way and enjoy the warmth between these two and other sweet and memorable stuff like the knitted booties, the Aunt’s hairless dog, and Madison’s appreciation for polka dots. Plus I just really liked the author’s voice, there’s a spark to it, she’s a natural at romantic comedy. ( )
