Historia genial y mágica, com toques oscuros y de humor que en algún momento (y salvando mucho las distancias) me ha recordado a Pratchett.

Mona es una protagonista que a ratos has de intentar recordar que tiene 14 años, pero aún así seguir toda la historia desde su punto de vista de panadera es una maravilla.

Creo que como novela infantil-juvenil es genial, sobretodo por todo el mensaje antisistema que tiene de fondo.

This was a quick and fun story that I think would appeal to young readers. The plot was straightforward and clearly explained: a bit too clearly for my tastes, with heavy-handed social commentary, but then I’m certainly not young! I liked that Mona had a good relationship with her aunt and uncle. She did came across as younger than her stated 14, especially in the medieval-ish setting. She struck me more as an observer and pushed around by circumstances (and other people’s actions/decisions) than having her own agency, which added to the “young” feel. The gingerbread man was fun.

A Wizard's Guide To Defensive Baking is a magical adventure that I eagerly devoured. This novel is entertaining, gripping, inventive, clever, and very well written. Our protagonist and narrator Mona, Wizard of the Bakery, is an extremely likeable an relatable character. I was attracted by the book's title and that cover image of the sword-wielding gingerbread man. But the proof, as they say, is in the pudding and when I first sat down to read, I could barely put the book down. The story is geared to to young adults but don't let that deter you. This middle-aged cabbage found it to be a thoroughly engaging magical adventure set in a fantastic world populated with memorable characters. ( )

Quite entertaining. Original magic, nice humour. And I liked Mona's critical attitude towards the adults and the duchess towards the end. ( )
