In Colin Quinn's new audiobook, the popular comedian, social commentator, and star of the shows Red State Blue State and Unconstitutional tackles the condition of our union today.

Utah: The Church of States
Vermont: The Old Hippie State
Florida: The Hot Mess State
Arizona: The Instagram Model State
Wisconsin: The Diet Starts Tomorrow State
The United States is in a fifty-states-wide couples' counseling session, thinking about filing for divorce. But is that really what we want? Can a nation composed of states that are so different possibly hang together?
Colin Quinn, comedian, social commentator, and writer and star of Red State Blue State and Unconstitutional, calls us out state-by-state, from Connecticut to Hawaii. He identifies the hypocrisies inherent in what we claim to believe and what we actually do. Within a framework of big-picture thinking about systems of government??after all, how would you put this country together if you started from scratch today???to dead-on observations about the quirks and vibes of the citizens in each region, Overstated skewers us all: red, blue, and purple. It's ultimately infused with the same blend of optimism and practicality that sparked the U.S. into being.

Not something I would normally buy but Barnes and Noble had it on the 50% off table so I thought it would be funny and anything American History is right up my alley. It was good but not great. There are some interesting factoids in there but it could have been even better if he would've left out the MAGA-friendly references. From early in the book I got the impression Colin Quinn is a Trumper, or at the very least a Trump sympathizer, and that made me enjoy it less by knowing that. A book this small usually doesn't take me an entire week to read and that alone shows my level of excitement for it. ( )

Sometimes insightful. Sometimes funny. Quinn, however, has a problem making both work in tandem perhaps because the real story he is telling is a sad one. ( )

Nothing is more wonderful than the art of being free but nothing is harder to learn than how to use freedom. -Tocqueville

To CQ. I realize it might come off as conceited and selfish to some to dedicate a book to myself, but I couldn't think of anyone more deserving. And I hope the American people will realize what I've meant to this country.

I've been to 47 of the 50 states, not counting the Dakotas and Wyoming, so I guess I've been to al 50. -Introduction

We took the concept of “the citizen” and weaponized it.
A toast to us! The Americans: the most self-centered, enthusiastic, discontented spiritual materialists in history.
We all swore we wouldn’t spend our whole lives arguing, bickering, and laughing at dumb shit. But we do. We used up our freedom of assembly to line up for new Yeezys. We used our free speech to curse out umpires and refs. Technology to jerk off to. We used our literacy to read comment sections. Do you know how many books Tolstoy sold last year? Probably three. Meanwhile there’s a YouTube video of a wedding party falling off a dock that got seven million views. Another couple of billion for a fish playing cards with a goat. When you set up a country and say free buffet, you can’t complain when everybody ignores the steamed vegetables.
Well, that’s the history of America. It was decent people trying to escape their past and not realizing you can never escape your past; it follows you and ruins your credit rating.
Started in the twentieth century, real estate in New York was actually simple. Follow the gays. You could walk around the neighborhood and ask a resident, “What’d you think of the Tonys last night?” If they say that Judith Light got robbed, you should invest.
