This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. “Pestilence” Book 3 of the “Second Son Chronicles” opens with the reading of Kind Edward’s will. In this historically narrated fiction, his successor, his eldest son John, is seen as ill suited in attitude, intellect and temperament to rule a Kingdom. John wastes no time creating chaos. Alfred, the second son, soon realizes that he must find a way to survive. The story would have been more interesting for me if there was more intrigue among the opposing factions. It is, as mentioned, the third book and, in my opinion, this is made obvious because reading it I had the sensation of being in the middle of nowhere. Something important happened before and something important is going to happen in the next book. The book is very readable, but it works as a prequel, only that. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. My apologies to Ms Taylor for writing my review a couple of months after finishing the book. I haven’t read the previous two books, but I felt there was enough references to the previous storyline’s that I didn’t feel I had missed anything, I’m fact I was quite keen to read them. I enjoyed the story and how nice Alfred, the main character is. The author portrays his brother, the king, lack of empathy, compassion and forethought so well I felt sad and uncomfortable for the major characters and people of the kingdom in general. Worth a read with mystery, mostly good hearted characters and hope, for the future. I look forward to the next book! This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This is the third book in the series by Pamela Taylor. It can stand on its own but it does reference the plots and formations of the characters from the previous two books. I am planning on reading the other two if I can locate them. The main character of the story is smart and is able to gather his friends and family together to protect and maintain as much of the kingdom's policies as he can. He understands how to work around his brother's misguided plans. He has been told that his life will greatly effect the kingdom. This book would be a good story for readers who like to read a whole series by one author. It would appeal to readers if they like stories about a medieval time. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse

The unthinkable has happened: Alfred's brother, John, is king. And it isn't long before everyone's worst fears are realized. Traditional allegiances are shattered under a style of rule unknown since the grand bargain that formed the kingdom was struck over two hundred years ago. These will be the most dangerous years of Alfred's life, forcing him to re-examine his duty to personal honor and to the kingdom, while the threats posed by his brother constantly remind him of his father's final words of advice. What choices will he have to make to try to protect the things he holds most dear? No library descriptions found. |
