This book, a gift from a friend, made for enjoyable light bedtime reading (i.e. when I can only read a few pages because my eyes get too heavy). Each of the poets tells about their early poetic experiences, whether from early childhood or from their teens or twenties, whether touching on many poems or telling a single anecdote. I find that the way they tell their stories often says as much about their craft and philosophy as some "heavier" books do. Then one of those poems is reprinted. Many of these poems are traditional classics but bear well another reading, listening with fresh ears.

Recommended, especially if you liked things like "Ecstatic Occasions, Expedient Forms." ( )
