Enjoyed this even more than the first. I wondered how the author would redeem Tom after his behaviour in the first book but they managed it. This had a enemies to lovers vibe without them ever really being true enemies. ( )

Poor Tom. He's been so busy hiding things that everyone thinks that he's a total waste of space. The thing is that no one has ever bothered to try to actually get to know Tom, not his family, not his wife, no one. But then Mal proposes that Tom marry him, for reasons.

I really like Tom and felt so strongly for him. He's not nearly as bad as everyone seems to assume he is, and he has reasons as to why he did everything that he did, even if they aren't the reasons that you and I would choose. When he went into his deep funk, I wanted to crawl in there too, just to hold him and tell him that everything would be OK.

I wanted to like Mal, and I did sometimes, but there are other times when I thought that he was just downright cruel. There were several times that I wanted to smack him and point out that he was doing exactly what he accused Tom of doing. He didn't stop to think about why Tom had spent the day in his bed with the blankets pulled up over his head, not eating, and not even lighting a fire, he just got mad. Like I said, I think he was really cruel at times.
