Nicely written novella, girl meets boy with a twang.
What I liked most, was the fact that real life and myth are interwoven. The treaty of Kildare, a treaty between the Navy and the Selkies. Just the fact that you can think this up!
I did not see the end coming, I suspect a lot of other readers will. ( )

Plot:
Siobhan has decided to spend her summer break to work on the Isle of Skye where she hopes to find some time to snorkel and explore the ocean’s wildlife, as she really wants to start to study marine biology in the fall. And it doesn’t hurt that she can put some distance between herself and her ex Kieran in this way. What she definitely doesn’t expect is to be drawn into a whole conspiracy involving selkies by way of the cutest boy in town, Calvin.

Selkie Summer has some nice ideas, and I’m pretty sure that it could have been a great story – if it had been developed a little more. I got the distinct impression that the book was published too early and should have gone through a couple of more re-workings. That being said, it’s cute enough.

I loved this novella about encounters between humans and those creatures of myth and legend the selkies. It is well written, very engaging and has surprising twists and turns, as well as being set in the glorious Western Isles of Scotland. I would love to read a sequel to this or even a prequel too, although the open ended final chapter allows you to imagine the future of the characters involved. Well recommended and very enjoyable. A different twist on Selkies. Some romance but nothing graphic. ( )

This was a fun short read. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer to allow for more character development and detail in the story line. Overall, this book is a great foundation for what I feel would be a hit series of books. ( )
