The book tells us facts about many women in history including Ada Lovelace who created one of the first computer programs, and Maria Tallchief, who became the first Prima Ballerina of the New York City Ballet and the first world-famous Native American ballerina. The book has a pattern and begins each page with “This little trailblazer” and then goes on to explain what achievements each woman made. It has a simple layout but it gives the reader a lot of information in the concise wording and it has lovely illustrations on each page. I would recommend this for read alouds, especially during Women’s History Month. (Growth Area) A great little introduction to the women who have contributed so much to our world! Ada Lovelace, Florence Nightingale, Coco Chanel, Rosa Parks, Maria Tallchief, Wilma Rudolph, Sonia Sotomayor, Ruby Bridges, Maya Lin, and Malala Yousafzai all get two pages each in here! And 12 more women are covered on the last two pages! Inspirational read for anyone and everyone! This Little Trailblazer: A Girl power Primer by Joan Holub and Daniel Roode is WONDERFUL! It tells a quick one-sentence summary of the lives and changes that some wonderful women made to our world including Malala Youszafzai and Rosa Parks. Each woman is displayed in a way that young girls will love and relate to. So much of our traditional history focuses of accomplishments of men. This book is about women of accomplishment and emphasizes brains over beauty, with the first lines stating, "Paving the way to a future that's bright. Helping the world with their skills, smarts, and might..." Each page walks readers through a female trailblazer, including Ada Lovelace, Florence Nightingale, Coco Chanel, Ross Parks, Maria Tallchief, Wilma Rudolph, Sonia Sotomayor, Ruby Bridges, Maya Lin, and Malala Yousafzai. The book celebrates diversity by representing women of different ages, races, backgrounds, professions, time periods, and more. Each woman receives an two page spread with the left-hand side including a four line rhyming poem about the individual, while the right-hand side provides a few additional facts about her. Although this is a simple board-book format, it is a classroom resource for stimulating young girl children to dream and believe in themselves ... and young boy children to be aware and respect the abilities of girls and women. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
