I loved this book. It was a great way to use math concepts in real world situations. ( )

On the way to the beach for a vacation, the O’Malley siblings begin to get antsy in the car. In order to pass the time, together they play tally games to pass the time in the hot car. Nell, Bridget, and Eric begin to compete against each other in order to find the most data to tally. This interactive math book provides the reader with a model of the tallying process, which allows the reader to tally along. The pages are filled with bright illustrations that enhance the text. This book would be great to use in the classroom to aid problem-solving skills, using data, and communicating data in various forms. ( )

The O'Malleys are off to the beach, but it's a long, hot, boring drive. So Eric, Bridget, and Nell play tally games, of course. They do so by counting up all the gray cars or green T-shirts they see. Whoever has the most marks at the end wins the game. Good story for first grade in my opinion.

Don't miss this book - if you ever take a car vacation with your kids! The three kids in this family have three opportunities to play "who can find the most _____ in the color ______ " along the day-long drive toward the vacation destination. The parents distribute pencils and paper, each child chooses a color, the parents decide how long the game will take, and the game begins. Two games are played within the car, one game is played while standing in line at the hamburger stand for lunch.

This is a cute book! Its about a family that goes on a long boring car ride to the beach and on the way they decide to play different tally games. First they count cars, then t-shirts and then train cars. First Eric wins, then Bridget and Nell finally wins the last game after everyone thinks she won't.

This book is good to tread if you are teaching students about tally marks.
