Summary: Beauty is a merchant’s daughter. The merchant loses everything and they are forced to move to a cottage. The two older daughters did not like to work but Beauty didn’t mind it. The merchant hears of one of his ships returning to shore so he asks his daughters what he missed most from their old life the old daughters said dressed and a carriage and team. Beauty only wanted a rose. The merchant makes it to the ship only to find that the food was spoiled. He didn’t have the money to pay for somewhere to stay. He wonders the path but gets lost until he comes upon a palace. He eats and curls up in chair. He finds a fresh horse for him in the morning but before taking off he picks a rose from a bush. The beast is angered with him and tells him that he is going to kill him for that. The merchant tries to explain that it was for Beauty so the Beast says it’s either you or one of your daughters. The merchant returns to the cottage to tell his daughter good bye but Beauty feels bad and goes instead. She learns that she is no danger and grows to like the Beast with each passing night. Beauty asked to go visit her family one last time before come to stay permanently but well away she dreamed that the Beast had died and was saddened by this and returns right away. My Response: I really liked this version of Beauty and the Beast. It shows the love she had for him and the love he has for her. It also shows how vain her sisters were. I would definitely read this to my future children.

One of my favourite Disney-movies. Though as my little cousin said: "And in the end the cute Beast was turned into a boring prince!" ( )

But then, one winter's night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold...
