Molly is a daddy’s girl that has an appetite for adventure. At the age of 19, Molly packs her things and moves to Colorado where she sings into the heart of Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown and Molly live a life full of wealth. One day Molly sets out on a new adventure to travel the world aboard the unsinkable ship the Titanic. When the ship began to sink, she jumps on the life raft and rescued many that are near death. Molly is such a hero, she makes the headlines of the paper. While traveling, she gets word through a telegram that her husband needs help, so she heads back and brings supplies for the cold winter. Unfortunately, she never arrives back home. Molly will always be remembered as the hero on the Titanic. The author sends us back to a time to an era dated with ruffles and lace. Uncharacteristic of this era, Molly becomes the heroine in a time of distress. She is determined to break the mold of the stereotypical woman. ( )

Molly Brown was born in Missouri on a stormy night. Although she had very happy childhood memories, she yearned for adventure and riches. When Molly was about 19 years old, she moved to Colorado, where she met and married J.J. Brown. Around 1909, J.J. left Molly, so she decided to travel the world. On her way back from Switzerland, Molly boarded the R.M.S. Titanic. When the Titanic sank, she was able to board one of the lifeboats. Molly bravely offered support and comfort to the other terrified passengers. She is now remembered as "the unsinkable molly Brown."

This story of the "Unsinkable Molly Brown" is a wonderful story about one of the Titanics passengers. It's a great story about someone going from rags-to-riches. How she became wealthy and how she survived the Titanic. I love how the title does not lead you to believe that everything is absolutely true. It just lets you hope that it is.
Classroom extensions: 1 - the class could watch the history channel's version of the Titanic and what happened on that fateful day in April 1912. ( )
