They're a glamorous family, the Caseys. Johnny Casey, his two brothers Ed and Liam, their beautiful, talented wives and all their kids spend a lot of time together--birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, weekends away. And they're a happy family. Johnny's wife, Jessie--who has the most money--insists on it. Under the surface, though, conditions are murkier. While some people clash, other people like each other far too much . . . Still, everything manages to stay under control--that is, until Ed's wife, Cara, gets a concussion and can't keep her thoughts or opinions to herself. One careless remark at Johnny's birthday party, with the entire family present, and Cara starts spilling all their secrets. As everything unravels, each of the adults finds themselves wondering if it's--finally--the time to grow up.… (mere)

A fun look at family life in contemporary Ireland with ups and downs, love and disagreements and plenty of laughter. ( )

4 stars for Audio book narrated by Marian Keyes.
Not so sure would I have enjoyed reading it as much. ( )

This was so long and drawn out it took ages for me to read it. I didn't connect with any of the characters. There were outbursts of interesting stuff e.g. the asylum seeker and her story, but this was quickly dropped and instead, we are treated to a story about a priviledged, selfish family which drags on and on. This is the first Keyes book I have read and as you can probably tell, it will probably be the last. ( )

Our book club generally found Grown Ups to be a light, easy read that dealt with deep topics in a digestible way. All members found the book educated them about bulimia really well, however story-wise, they didn't feel much emotional connection with the characters. Some members called it "gossipy" rather than a "character journey". Overall this book got a 3.5/5 rating. ( )

Like all Marian Keyes' work, this book is kind to all its characters, even when they don't deserve it. Her favourite topic, the richness and complexity of family life, is again beautifully and compassionately rendered. Small critiques of the hotel workers' subplot that didn't ring entirely true, and often the dialogue can be a little interchangeable between characters, but overall a great work. ( )
