Frank likes peace and quiet. He likes his tent, his pencil, and writing in his secret notebook. Bean likes noise. He likes his bus, his trumpet -- toot, toot! -- and making music. Loud music. But Bean is missing something: he does not have words. What will happen if Frank shares his words with Bean? With a laugh-out-loud narrative by Jamie Michalak, author of the Joe and Sparky series, and Bob Kolar's bright, graphic, comical illustrations, this fresh and funny story will go down easy for beginning readers and young listeners alike.… (mere)

How can two personalities filled with opposite interests and abilities come together to form a friendship? Even the wordplay between their names symbolizes how things often are paired together despite their differences Cute illustrations and a simple yet engaging story helps to illuminate the message that opposites can not only get along but can develop into friendship by embracing their differences. A wonderful story for primary kids. ( )

This is a very good book for early readers, with a great theme of embracing differences in friendship. ( )

I read this book to my First Grade students and they immediately loved the silly characters and fun illustrations. My students enjoyed the expressive language and plays on words. They were howling with laughter during a few parts. I liked that the book showed a character learning to be flexible and tolerant of other's ideas. I also appreciated that 2 very different characters become friends and fill each other's life with something that was missing. Children often learn to build friendships from what we have in common, but those who are different from us can fill our lives with excitement and help us grow. ( )

This is a cute book about two characters of vastly different temperaments who learn to appreciate what the other person is offering and, thus, form a friendship. (A little like the Mo and Peanut books, but with more language). Frank is an aspiring writer who craves solitude to create and Bean is a fun-loving guy who adores noise and newness in order to feel stimulated. It's a cute book.
