Julie Evans' autobiography is raw and honest. She was born to parents old enough to be her grandparents. Her two sisters could have been her mother. So her life didn't start out in a very traditional fashion. Her parents both died while she was still in her teens and so she was on her own. Think about when you were a teenager. A teenager without guidance doesn't always make good choices. It's Julie's story, but also a story of all the different places she lived and the time she lived in. I recommend it. I would like to hear more of the animal rescue part of her life. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Say what you will, this woman lived a hella interesting life, and how can you dislike anyone who loves animals so? Totally NOT BORING! This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. What an incredible life and journey. While I understand that the coke, drugs, and sex are a concern, the life experiences are extraordinary. As I read, I was blown away by the travels, lust, loves, trust, and losses. From living in Key West's Christmas Tree Island in a tent to New Orleans and bicycle riding with a friend to NY, in order to try and have a book published (not this). Her second husband being a "Warlock" as explained by Norman, is mind boggling. She takes in whatever anyone tells her as truth. It doesn'tatter because she has lived and shared an amazing adventure. I loved the chapters about her and the animals she helped. I would have liked more of that. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
Joy Road is a memoir by Julie Evans, a change-of-life baby who spent much of her Midwestern childhood nurturing her alcoholic mother and her chronically ill father. Both parents died while she was still a teen. She takes readers on a tumultuous ride from the 1970s to the 2000s as she struggles to find herself, developing addictions to sex, drugs, alcohol and nicotine. In the end it's her experiences as a wildlife rehabilitator, and the wise counsel of a country pastor, that rescue her and usher her into a life of service. Julie's compelling story is set in colorful locales, including Minneapolis, Phoenix, Key West, New Orleans, Seattle, San Francisco, New York City and, finally, upstate New York. Peopled with a memorable cast of characters, her saga is by turns shocking, humorous and inspiring. Today Julie lives on Joy Road in Woodstock, New York. She is a healed healer, writer and motivational speaker with a thriving massage practice. No library descriptions found. |
