I requested an received an advance copy of the novel from Netgalley. This is the second book of the House of Falconer. I had previously read the first book and throughly enjoyed it. The second book did not disappoint and am anxiously waiting for the next book. Even though it is a second book , it can be read as a stand alone. It is a historical novel . Main characters are the Malverins and Falconers families with a couple of other families. In the Lion's Den , the focus is on Alexis Malverin and James Falconer. I really enjoyed James character and the way he handled business. The book is well written with great character development. I have always enjoyed reading Ms. Bradford's novels. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse

"From New York Times bestselling author Barbara Taylor Bradford comes the highly anticipated second book in the House of Falconer saga. James Lionel Falconer has risen quickly from a mere shop worker to being the right-hand man of Henry Malvern, head of the most prestigious shipping company in London. With Malvern's daughter Alexis running away to the country after a terrible tragedy and refusing to return, James' ascent to head of the company seems inevitable. But even a charmed life like James' is not without its setbacks. A terrible fire threatens to end his merchant career before it's had a chance to truly begin. Mrs. Ward, James' former paramour, has a secret that could change his life forever. And his distaste for Alexis Malvern is slowly growing into feelings of quite a different sort. Can James continue to be the master of his own fate, or will all of his charm, intelligence, and wit finally fail him when he has to enter the lion's den? Spanning the years from 1889 to 1892, In the Lion's Den is Barbara Taylor Bradford at her historical storytelling best"-- No library descriptions found. |

Lion's Den is an excellent story, but the characters were so polite and predictable. Perhaps during that time period men were so very gracious to each other, I just found it a bit too much (it might have been the Victorian manners - I certainly stand corrected).
There will be another book to follow and I hope it picks up and shows the spark I have seen in the past.
I will read those that follow to be sure, Lions Den was just lackluster. I did however give it 4 stars. After all, it is BTB. ( )
