The #1 Wall Street Journal bestseller that People Magazine calls "a poignant, addictive read." From #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us comes a novel about family, first love, grief, and betrayal that will touch the hearts of both mothers and daughters. Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike. Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn't want to follow in her mother's footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn't have a spontaneous bone in her body. With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris--Morgan's husband, Clara's father, and the family anchor. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara. While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she's been forbidden to see. With each passing day, new secrets, resentment, and misunderstandings make mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.… (mere)

When Morgan Grant's husband, Chris, and sister, Jenny, die together in a car crash, it isn't long before Morgan realizes that they had been having an ongoing affair. What's worse, is when it registers that Jenny lied about her son, Elijah, being their friend Jonah's son from a one night stand when he came home for his father's funeral. Jenny and Chris knew all a long that Elijah was Chris's. While trying to come to terms with their deceit, Morgan goes into a tailspin, leaving her sixteen year old daughter, Clara, to deal with her guilt over the possibility that she might have been to blame for the crash. Clara had been texting with Jenny at the time of the wreck. Clara begins acting out in ways that Morgan has never seen, and when Clara starts dating a boy from the wrong side of the tracks, Morgan believes their relationship is just another way for Clara to show her anger.

Regretting You is full of heavy duty emotion ranging from the highs of new love to the lows of losing loved ones to sudden death. These feelings are well developed and true to the characters who experience them. Several conflicts between characters make the story move along quickly, but the deepest dynamic is between Morgan and Clara who can't seem to find common ground. My only complaint about this story is that the dialogue spoken by Clara and her friends doesn't ring true as authentic teenage speech, but overall, this is a wonderful story of love and loss. ( )

Colleen Hoover is a must read author for me. Her books are nearly always perfection and even those I have not enjoyed were still wonderful books they were just not right for me. Her stories and characters are painfully real and I always become invested in the outcome. She is truly an author everyone should read at least once. ( )

This was really hard for me to read, but it was so well written. I teared up quite a few times. ( )

Almost DNFed.

I'm not sure if I just hate audiobooks or if I hate teens.

Since turning 25, reading about teen angst just get on my nerves.

I don't know.

I think I'm too old for YA.

The book switches between Morgan, a young mother, and Clara, her teenage daughter. They're at the stage where Clara is feeling some tension with her mother's rules, but all in all, they have a good family life. Then a secret and a tragedy blows that tranquil life to smithereens.
The story is about love, all the different messy shades of it (even orange). Ms. Hoover covers a lot of ground here; there is family love between parents and children, siblings, and grandparents. There are different aspects of young love and the rediscovery of love for mature adults.
The characters are all great. Even when I didn't necessarily like them, they were still human with all the faults and drama. It's a good story, one I stayed up to finish reading. ( )
