"At the end of the fourth year of the Crisis Era, Yun Tianming, riddled with cancer, chose to end his life. His decision was the first step in a journey that would take him to the end of the universe and beyond. His brain was extracted from his body, flash frozen, put aboard a spacecraft, and launched on a trajectory that will intercept the Trisolarian First Fleet in a few centuries. It is a desperate plan, almost certain to fail. But there is an infinitesimal chance that one day Tianming may, somehow, be able to send valuable information back to Earth. And so he does. His broadcasts from the Trisolarian fleet reveal the secrets of faster than light propulsion and the ultimate defence of black domains. This is Tianming's story. It reveals what happened to him when he was intercepted by the Trisolarians. It reveals the true nature of the struggle that has created the universal 'dark forest', and the ultimate fate of the Universe..."--… (mere)

So an interesting paraquel (?) of Lui Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past (The Three Body Problem). One downside particularly in the early part of the book is how much of it is just “told” with very little action. But this I felt was overcome as the book progressed and the story became more involved and interesting, though there were a lot of jumps in chronology. ( )

This novel weaves together plot points that had no real conclusion in the trilogy and builds into the lacuna there. There are some truly excellent scenes that bring you back into the Remembrance universe, especially in the first half of the book.

At the same time, the treatments of AA and Cheng Xin are stifled and one dimensional and their actions/dialogue were occasionally bizarre and often ill-suited to the characters so solidly developed in Liu Cixin’s works.

Overall, though, if you loved the trilogy this is worth the read. ( )

This should only be read as a companion piece to the Three Body trilogy, as it does not quite manage to stand on its own. It consists almost entirely of exposition and feels like a collection of deleted scenes from The Dark Forest and Death's End. Still, it's quite fun to see how Baoshu twists and expands on Liu's concepts and ideas. ( )

A disappointing attempt to patch backstories and side shoots. It doesn't add alot to the original series. ( )
