I will always be a big pete the cat fan, but I appreciate the alliteration and rhythm that alwasy comes with these books. The repitition is especially helpful for young learners. This practice is critical, and I will always want a pete the cat book near me in the classroom! ( ) Title: Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party - Author: Kimberly Dean and James Dean - Illustrator: Same - Publisher: HarperCollins - Date: September 3, 2019 - Pages: 34 - Type of book/genre: picture book, fiction - Short summary of the plot: The story begins with Pete, and he loves pizza and parties. Pete sends out invitations for his pizza party, and they were going to build a pizza together. Pete had in mind extra cheese, and peperoni, but others did not agree. Some of the characters wanted pretzels, pistachios, pickles, popcorn, and papaya. All the while, the authors depict them having fun at the party doing different games. Once they are done assembling the pizza, they all loved it, and in order to make a perfect pizza it has to be eaten/done with friends. - Tags/subject headings that describe the content: friendship, compromise, party, pizza. - My response: I really like this book because it teaches people about compromising. Pete the Cat returns in this eleventh full-sized picture-book devoted to his adventures, this time inviting all of his friends over for a pizza party. Our feline hero has definite ideas about what makes the perfect pizza - cheese and pepperoni, in his case - but each of his friends has their own favorite topping. Can Pete keep his cool, when each new idea is mentioned...? Although not the best of the Pete the Cat picture-books (I tend to prefer the early ones, written by Eric Litwin), Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party is engaging enough, and is sure to appeal to fans of this cool cat. I appreciated the message about learning to adapt, when our friends have their own ideas about the perfect snack (or activity, or anything else), and the artwork is as bright and colorful as ever. Unlike some of the more recent holiday-themed Pete the Cat books (which are smaller than these regular picture-books), this one didn't feel as much like coattail-riding.
