"Izzy and Jules were childhood friends, climbing the spires of Batuu, inventing silly games, and dreaming of adventures they would share one day. Then, Izzy's family left abruptly, without even a chance to say goodbye. Izzy's life became one of constant motion, traveling from one world to the next, until her parents were killed and she became a low-level smuggler to make ends meet. Jules remained on Batuu, eventually becoming a farmer like his father, but always yearning for something more. Now, thirteen years after she left, Izzy is returning to Batuu. She's been hired to deliver a mysterious parcel, and she just wants to finish the job and get gone. But upon arrival at Black Spire Outpost she runs smack into the one person who still means something to her after all this time: Jules. The attraction between them is immediate, yet despite Jules seeming to be everything she's ever needed, Izzy hesitates. How can she drag this good-hearted man into the perilous life she's chosen? Jules has been trying to figure out his future, but now all he knows for certain is that he wants to be with Izzy. How can he convince her to take a chance on someone who's never left the safety of his homeworld? When Izzy's job goes wrong, the two childhood friends find themselves on the run. And all their secrets will be revealed as they fight to stay alive?"--Amazon.… (mere)

Spring 2020;

Back on my Star Wars quest, yep. Especially in the wake of the new announcement for Old Republic and looking at how I managed to get through 30% of the new canon during the last third of this year. Now the aim is to get a whole lot more of it knocked out, too.

This was a cute little basically one-day (two/three day) romp, with dual narrators, coming back into contact and falling back in love super fast, while basically having a bumpy, exciting, highs and lows little smuggler-heist girl vs. golden-hearted farm boy dreaming of the stars. It was far more 'everyman story' than your normal main-storyline Star Wars, but I found it deeply charming and down to earth. ( )

This is a fun adventure in the Star Wars universe, set in the Black Spire Outpost on the world of Batuu (which is a real place, the Galaxy's Edge park, that you can visit at Disneyland and soon at Disneyworld and don't get me started on how badly I want to go there!!). The book is a romance between two young adults, Izzy and Jules, who were childhood friends until Izzy's mom's smuggling/spy career took her family away from Batuu. When a courier job ten years later brings Izzy back to Batuu, a place she never thought she'd see again, Jules can't believe it's really her. He had always dreamed of getting offplanet to see the galaxy, and maybe someday to find Izzy again, but never was able to make it happen. But their reunion is complicated by the local crimelord's wheelings and dealings, and some typical Star Warsian (yeah, that's an adjective, coz I said so!) mixups and mistaken identities and shenanigans ensue. I enjoyed reading this a lot and I hope Córdova writes more Star Wars books. The action was fun, the characters had a lot of good teen angst, and the romance was sweetly done. ( )

Good story with characters I enjoyed spending time with, but I felt like I didn't know enough about Star Wars to really picture the world and people in it. I think readers will relate well to the themes of leaving home or returning after being away for a long time. The two main characters both make different decisions in this respect and then find themselves back together for a couple of days and reevaluating their past decisions. Our female main character fled their childhood home when her parents were in danger and never looked back, until a new job required her to return. The male main character has passed up bigger opportunities to stay on their home planet and continue his family's farming business. Together, they find a balance between following your dreams and learning to trust and share your life with others. These are the main themes I feel that teens will recognize in themselves and enjoy seeing the romance play out as the characters navigate these choices. ( )
