(  ) steveportigal | Dec 31, 2020 |  I used to read a lot of horror and supernatural books, but I pretty much have stopped reading much in those genres. This series is an exception simply because it's Jeff Lemire. I'm predisposed to like anything he does, and this series is no exception. It's a mix of supernatural and horror and definitely darker than much of Lemire's other work. The first volume was a lot of setup and stage setting but drew me in and got me hooked. This second volume begins to answer some questions but also raises many more. Andrea Sorrentino's artwork continues to be impressive. Some of the pages have extremely creative layouts. While most of it is dark and moody there are some spectacular scenes and others that are fairly gritty looking. The layouts definitely add to the story. The story continues to move back and forth between the small town of Gideon Falls and a large city. There are connections but the answers to what it all means will have to wait for more of the series. While this kind of story isn't my usual cup of tea, I'm hooked and absolutely recommend it.
