This is a book with multi levels. While James Baldwin's half of the debate at the Cambridge Union Society in 1965 is the main focus, the book also demonstrates through additional historical materials and questions about sources and through definitions of aspects like rhetorical questions what students need and should look for when analyzing historical events like this speech. Numerous additional resources are included in the back of the book. By the time readers have finished with it, they will not only understand the gist of the speech, but what the times were like for Black Americans and more importantly, should be able to reflect upon what, if any changes in race relations have occurred since the debate.
