La fuerza de la sangre, published in 1613, is one of twelve stories that compose the exemplary Novels of Miguel de Cervantes. A history of rapture, dishonor and recognition, La fuerza de la sangre unites the interest of its adventures, its formal perfection as its narrative. In the novel, Cervantes questions one of the most important social paradigms of the Spanish Golden Age, questioning its bases and making visible the mechanism of construction of a concept absolutely present in the collective consciousness of the time, such as the honor. The argument is as follows: A beautiful young woman is kidnapped and raped by an unknown and masked gentleman, who then leaves her in a square blindfolded so she can return home. As a result of the rape, Leocadia, who calls herself the girl, has a son whom her parents pass as their nephew. One day, a gentleman runs over the boy and another gentleman, an old man, takes him to his house to cure him. For a while, his supposed uncles and his real mother visit him there, where Leocadia recognizes the room where he was dishonored. The knight who knocked him over and his wife find the child very similar to his son, who has been in Italy for a long time, where he left for after dishonoring Leocadia. (mere)
