Written in repeated verse, this lyrical book starts each two page spread with "Fry bread is..." and then goes on the show characteristic of fry bread or the significance of fry bread by showing readers the lives of modern Native families.

Kevin Noble Maillard is a member of the Seminole Nation and African American. This is a book for the classroom and library because of the authority and voice of book written about and by a Native author. #OwnVoices

Fry bread tells the story of how fry bread, a traditional native American recipe, actually is much more than just a recipe. Fry bread is a tradition that connects generations. This is beautiful story that demonstrates the connection between food and culture. ( )

Fry Bread is such a gorgeous read. The illustrations are warm and inclusive and the text is informative and fun. In the back of the book, the author shares their favorite fry bread recipe and centralizes how bread makes all of us family. ( )

Nominated for Goodreads' Best Children's book, Kevin Maillard, a Seminole Nation of Oklahoma member, pays tribute to fry bread, a staple of many native American's diet. He explores its role in the Native American family, and the book features striking artwork from Juana Martinez-Neal. Don't miss the extensive afterword providing substantial supplemental information about Native Americans. ( )

Experience Native American Culture through this tale about food. This Robert F. Sibert medal winner is a great way to introduce young readers to Native American culture. It tells about the traditional food and how it is important within the culture of Native Americans. It even includes a recipe to extend the learning. It has beautiful illustrations as well that show how food can bring people together. It is definitely a great way to introduce Native American culture in the classroom or home. ( )
