#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - In the next highly anticipated installment of Lee Child's acclaimed suspense series, Jack Reacher comes to the aid of an elderly couple . . . and confronts his most dangerous opponents yet. "Jack Reacher is today's James Bond, a thriller hero we can't get enough of."--Ken Follett "This is a random universe," Reacher says. "Once in a blue moon things turn out just right." This isn't one of those times. Reacher is on a Greyhound bus, minding his own business, with no particular place to go, and all the time in the world to get there. Then he steps off the bus to help an old man who is obviously just a victim waiting to happen. But you know what they say about good deeds. Now Reacher wants to make it right. An elderly couple have made a few well-meaning mistakes, and now they owe big money to some very bad people. One brazen move leads to another, and suddenly Reacher finds himself a wanted man in the middle of a brutal turf war between rival Ukrainian and Albanian gangs. Reacher has to stay one step ahead of the loan sharks, the thugs, and the assassins. He teams up with a fed-up waitress who knows a little more than she's letting on, and sets out to take down the powerful and make the greedy pay. It's a long shot. The odds are against him. But Reacher believes in a certain kind of justice . . . the kind that comes along once in a blue moon.… (mere)

Mejora algo que las ultimas pero sigue flojo y no esta bien resuelto el tema de la ayuda samaritana que le presta gente que no conoce, y la relación con la novia de ocasión. ( )

Echoes of Red Harvest in this last Reacher adventure by Lee Child (he has handed the franchise over to his brother Andrew). Reacher helps an elderly man who is carrying too much cash and lands between the Ukrainian and Albanian mobs who control a Midwestern city. The new police commissioner takes credit for what Reacher and some locals accomplish. ( )

Once upon time Jack Reacher was a man that followed the law of least resistance, while enforcing some kind of tribal law on rural US, where the real law was not available.

In this book Jack Reacher has become a sadistic super hero mass murderer able to run through a hail of bullets without a scratch. Over and over again. Would make for an interesting movie scene, but only because such a scene would not leave any time for the watcher to think. If you get time to think, as in a book, then it becomes ridiculous. Especially if you repeat it more than once.

Ok, so is it that bad to have the main character be lucky? Not at all, as long as you don't press it. And this book presses it. You figure that if he throws himself through a tenth story window he will land on a mattress that happens to be there. It's too much. It becomes farcical.

The book takes place in a city of 150,000 people divided between two gangs. And with more than a thousand police, every single one corrupt. Believe it if you want, since that is what Lee Child asks you to believe.

No, Lee Child, please return to the template that worked for so long. It was simple and predictable but it was much better than this. And try to return to the possible, be it unlikely or not. ( )
