This book was a five star read prediction and I really struglled with it. I did not feel as connected to these characters as i did the characters in the previous book. I was hoping for a stronger little mermaid retelling and that is not what i got. I did enjoy both chararcters pov but it just did not wow me in the end. ( )

New variation of the little mermaid, told from the witch's (Ursela) point of view. Book 2 of a duology tells the story of what happens when the balance of magic between sea and land falls towards the seas when the mermaid king becomes greedy with power. ( )

The Little Mermaid told from the perspective of one of the mermaid’s sisters. And the titular sea witch, of course.

Evie, the Sea Witch, remembers the pain her friend Annamette caused when she tried to trade her tail for legs. But when the youngest mer-princess comes to her asking for help, she thinks maybe this time will be different. So she agrees to grant the little mermaid’s request.

But when the mermaid’s twin sister, Runa, arrives on her doorstep and explains the truth of the situation, Evie realizes her mistake and sends Runa after her sister to try to fix things before it’s too late. Caught in the middle of the humans’ brewing war and trying to prevent the sea king from starting another war in his endless quest for power, Runa and Evie must find a way to prevent countless casualties and restore the balance of magic to land and sea.

I didn’t like this one as much as the first book, but it’s still a really creative retelling and I enjoyed it! ( )
